Evan’s Spiked Tentacles of Forced Intrusion!

If you’re anything like me – and I know I am – then you love finding a new webcomic that i) makes you laugh, and ii) has a huge archive to be devoured.

I give you the Order of the Stick!

And if you’re wondering about the title, it’s in #20. You’ll love it. :-D

Tank Sayle

February 5th, 2007 § 0 comments § permalink

As an example of the previously mentioned Wiki Wandering, I give you:

The T-34 Tank to Alexei Sayle, in 9 moves.

T-34 (clicked on from the Wikipedia front page) links to World War II, which links to Adolf Hitler (duh), which links to Friedrich Nietzsche, which links to Sigmund Freud, which links to cocaine (he was mad for it), which links to Cocaine (song), which links to Eric Clapton, which links to The Secret Policeman’s Other Ball, which links to Alexei Sayle.

Have I learnt anything? Maybe. Did I enjoy my last ten minutes? Definitely.

XKCD imitates Axemonkey

January 24th, 2007 § 0 comments § permalink

I was going to post the other day about a new web habit of mine, but I couldn’t think of a good name for it, so I scrapped the post and did something else. I shall now name it “Wiki Wandering“.

Go to Wikipedia, and type in the first thing that comes to mind. If nothing comes to mind, here are a couple of suggestions:

  • Denmark
  • Gibson Flying V
  • Marmite
  • Fridge Magnets
  • Hummus
  • Spandau Ballet.

Now idly read a bit of the resulting entry on whatever you chose. The moment you see something that links to something else that sounds even a teeny bit interesting, abandon your first page, click the link and read some more. Repeat.

It’s a great way to spend half an hour, doing what I think of as “Passive Research“, or “The Eddie Izzard Technique“.

Thus, I was greatly amused this morning by the latest comic over at XKCD.

Twittering

December 14th, 2006 § 0 comments § permalink

Just discovered Twitter via Adactio. Strangely fascinating, though at the moment no-one I know is on there so I’m just checking out the public stream.

If anyone reading this feels like signing up and adding me, please go ahead – my Twitter name is axemonkey.

Which was nice.

Shadow Run

November 29th, 2006 § 0 comments § permalink

Remember Lasse Gjertsen? No? Scroll down a few posts, he’s the guy that did the “Hyperactive” and “Amateur” videos?

Well he doesn’t just do crazy timeline music mashups, it turns out. I just found one of his called “Us” in which his shadow runs away from him and he has to chase it.

Like he says, it’s not 100%, but hey – this is a young guy with a camcorder and a computer doing some really good creative stuff, probably out of his bedroom.

Brilliant, say I.

New House

November 28th, 2006 § 0 comments § permalink

You may notice that I’ve moved.

I’ve moved webhosts, I’ve moved from Pivot to WordPress, I’ve moved the location of the blog itself, and I’ve (re)moved the non-blog pages from the site.

Some of those pages will be back in all likelihood through the WordPress system, maybe even after a re-write, but there will be less cruft laying around going stale and more shiny new blogness.

Standard WordPress themes until I can be arsed to redesign, too.

Anyway, welcome in, but can you take your shoes off please? I’ve just hoovered.

Pardon our 404s

November 23rd, 2006 § 0 comments § permalink

I’m moving my site to yet another webhost over the next couple of days. This site may or may not: i) break, ii) disappear completely, iii) remain exactly as it is, iv) explode in a shower of WTF.

Don’t worry about it. Remain calm, stay under the desk with a close friend and tell stories of glories past.
