Chance

I’m not normally a betting type of person, aside from paying my four quid a week Idiot Tax, and I’m usually very disinterested in sport, particularly Foots and Balls, or whatever it’s called.

But last night I did find myself a little drawn into the Russia v Sweden game and was quite inspired by the performance of the Russkies. So this morning I took a little flutter and bunged down an optimistic Lady on them to win the whole thing! (And another on Spain, who seem to be doing rather well.)

What ho!

Spambot blocking

If you’re anything like me – and I know I am – then you run WordPress for your blogging activities. You also allow users to register on your site so that they can store their usernames and so forth for next time, but you are getting increasingly pissed off nowadays with the amount of spurious registrations you’re getting from random – often Russian – email addresses.

Sabre to the rescue! I’ve just installed it myself, and it gives you many options to beat these evil bots! You can enable CAPTCHAs, human math tests, registration confirmation by email, or any/all of the above. I’ve gone with just email confirmation for now. I’ll report back in the comments if it doesn’t prove effective for any reason.

(Inter) Face Lift

November 12th, 2007 § 0 comments § permalink

When I see posts in my RSS reader that are obviously just automated dumps of links from delicious or magnolia, I very rarely click through to read them. If whoever it was couldn’t be bothered to actually write something about whatever they’ve found, I won’t bother to click on it. Very occasionally I hover over the link just in case anything interesting hops out at me, and the other day I’m glad I did.

Check out InterFaceLift – all the desktop wallpaper you’ll ever need, for free, in most resolutions you could want it.

“Either that wallpaper goes, or I do”

It may be noticed that things look a little different hereabouts. (Those of you reading via RSS, go about your business, nothing to see here…)

I’m just getting bored of the same old layout (great though it is) and fancied trying out some WordPress themes as I don’t really have the time or inclination to redesign this joint myself.

Stuff is subject to change as I see fit, from hour to hour and minute to minute. Widgets come, and widgets go, so what are you going to do about it? That’s what I’d like to know.
