Funny how life can appear to go round in circles, innit?
I’m originally from Eastbourne, down there on the south coast, and it was there and in the neighbouring town of Bexhill that I grew up and got into my first band, aged 17. When that imploded I managed to tag onto a more metal band with the drummer from the previous one, and the bassist from that band on vocals. Damn good fun, that was. Anyway, the bassist for this new band was in fact the drummer’s postman – one Stuart Ranger. We rehearsed in Polegate and played a couple of gigs in Eastbourne, but that was more or less it.
Roughly 14 years later – this coming Sunday in fact – I will return to Eastbourne to rehearse for the first time with a newly-forming covers band that is yet to have a name, by the invite of Stuart’s brother, and long-time cm.com reader, Dan.
Personally, I can’t wait.

Though I gather from Dan that this weekend’s rehearsal is postponed to next week due to a minor double-booking issue.
No probs, that gives me a bit more time to get the first batch of tunes down.

Actually my biggest conundrum at the moment is what guitar(s) to bring to first rehearsal. I’m all about the fixed bridge nowadays, and at least one tune we’ve picked is in drop-D, so it’s the Les Paul or the Blackmachine. I’m favouring the latter at the moment as it’s so much lighter!
We’ll see.

I have my new RG2610BK standard tuning and I have my burnt/battered to fuck RG565 for drop tunings, and also I will be wearing my Adidas superstars (Black) trainers for extra grip on my Vai Wah LOL!
Oh man, I LOVE the RG565. I was gutted when I had to sell my blue one, but cash was tight.
Footwise, I will probably opt for the Vans as they grip *my* Vai Wah pretty well!
