It was obvious to me in the first few minutes of the latest Harry Potter film that it had a different director from the first two, and by god what a difference it made. I was absolutely nailed into my seat for the whole 141 minutes running time and not once did I feel that the film dragged or wanted for anything. As Rick (whose site appears to be down at the time of writing) observed, the three main characters seem to have all had a hefty whack with the Acting Stick, and this certainly helps as well.
But for me the real star of the film was the mood - much grainier and starker than the previous two films, which is very much in keeping with the progression from book to book, in my opinion.
Hopefully Alfonso Cuarn will be retained to direct the fourth film, which is going to be a pretty difficult task due to the relative size of the fourth book compared to any of the previous three.
Excellent throughout.

So remind me, Rick…
