The Fest of Jems

Well, Jemfest UK 2003 happened on Saturday, and it was the ultimate blast.

I was third on the bill, which meant that there was a lot of waiting around to be done before my band got to play, but there were some excellent acts on during that time, my favourite of which was probably everRain featuring Mark Gibson on guitar. They were a superb band, though that’s not to say that the other acts weren’t! Everyone who played on the day did a great set, so bigups also go to Alan Lennon, Stefan Lindholm, Cereal Killer and Wipeout.

Then it was time for my set, and by god I was glad to have a wireless unit so I could move round the stage properly. Having seen the video of my set last year, I was almost rooted to the spot, but being untethered meant I could nip over to where Ross was and pose for a bit, then over to Greg’s side of the stage, then turn round and face Jon for a bit, and all without worrying about getting tangled up. Nice!

As for the set itself, well it wasn’t the most accurate piece of playing I’ve ever done, but it was definitely the most fun, and I think that came across to the audience. They certainly seemed to enjoy it - they were yelling for more at the end, though we couldn’t do any more due to time constraints. We actually had to drop a song as it was.

Then it was time to get off and make way for the superb Tony Hernando from Spain, who is an amazing player - his cover of Steve Vai’s “For The Love Of God” was unbelieveable. Unfortunately I missed a lot of his set as I was saying Hi to everyone and doing that rock star bit - what a bind, eh? ;-)

Then it was time for the headline act - Rob Balducci and his band, all the way from Nu Yawk. And I tell you what - they rocked. Large greets go to Rob, Anthony and Danny for a great set. Rock on fellers!

Many people had cameras and some even had videocams, the results of which are currently being compiled by Jerry over at Ibanez Register, so take a look if you’re interested. My great friend Ian was there with his camera doing pics for me, though I haven’t got them yet. When I do, I may add a Gallery section to this site featuring those, plus galleries of last year’s ‘Fest, and maybe even the BBQ Jem burn.

Next up - The Cornford Club this Saturday, supporting Rob Balducci. It’s in Kent, but don’t let that stop you coming. ;-)

ROCK ON!
